Search for the name and the results mix a 2 ml tank, a 4 ml one, a version with top airflow and a full kit with a battery. Every one of them is built around a Zlide tank from Innokin. Yet the coil in the box, the draw and the capacity change from one model to the next, and so does the bottle worth pouring in. Before picking a base or a form of nicotine, it helps to know which Zlide is actually on the table.

Zlide tank, four models under one name

The Zlide tank name covers four products. The original Zlide, often called the D22, is 22 mm wide and holds 2 ml. Wider still, the D24 holds 4 ml and comes with the Zlide Tube kit. The Zlide Tube kit pairs that D24 with a battery. Finally, the Zlide Top moves the airflow to the top and opens up as far as restricted direct-to-lung vaping.

On the liquid side, the D22, the D24 and the Zlide Tube are tight-draw tanks that get on with a base close to 50/50, nic salts included on coils above one ohm. The Zlide Top is the exception once it takes the 0.3 ohm coil, which calls for a base richer in vegetable glycerine and a lower strength.

Telling your Zlide apart at a glance

Three clues settle it, the diameter, where the airflow sits and the coil found in the box. The table below brings together what the manufacturer and retailers publish for each version of the Innokin Zlide.

All four versions share one point that makes buying parts easier. Each takes the Z coil range, the former Zenith series under a new name, so you can move from one resistance to another without changing tank, within the range the battery accepts on the Zlide Tube.

The Zlide D22, 2 ml and no liquid shut-off

The original model has a design feature that few pages mention, and it changes the way the liquid has to be handled.

What Innokin says about this format

The official product page gives 22.7 mm across and 49.5 mm tall, while several retailers list 22 by 46 mm. More importantly, it explains a deliberate choice. This tank does without the liquid shut-off found on the Zenith, which is why Innokin says it only comes in a 2 ml, 22 mm format, so the sliding top fill can be used without flooding the coil.

That reasoning no longer fits the whole family. The Zlide Tube kit carries a 24 mm, 4 ml Zlide, and the Zlide Top takes glass sections of up to 4.5 ml. The 2 ml Zlide D22 is therefore the only version that matches the logic the maker describes.

Changing a coil or a flavour without flooding the wick

Without a shut-off, nothing holds the liquid back once the base is unscrewed. The manual a retailer publishes for the D24 has you turn the tank upside down before unscrewing, and the same move works on the D22. A tank that is almost empty also limits spills.

Changing flavour follows the same logic. It is better to finish the tank, rinse the glass and keep the coil for a similar family of flavours, since the wick holds on to part of the previous taste.

The D24 and the Zlide Tube, 4 ml and a fixed wattage

The Zlide Tube kit pairs a 3000 mAh battery with the 24 mm Zlide tank. According to Innokin, it sets itself to 13 W with a Z coil above 1.0 ohm and to 16 W below that, across an accepted range of 0.4 to 3.0 ohms.

What matters for the liquid sits in the box. Innokin lists a 1.2 ohm Z coil there, rather than the 0.48 and 1.6 ohm pair of the D22. Published in March 2023, the maker’s wattage guide places that 1.2 ohm coil between 10 and 14 W, so the kit runs it at 13 W, within its range.

This 24 mm tank is also sold on its own, as the Zlide D24 or Zlide Tank 4 ml. In the UK, refillable tanks are capped at 2 ml, which rules out this 4 ml version.

The Zlide Top, airflow moved to the top

Presented with the Coolfire Z60 kit, the Zlide Top turns the D22 layout around. Innokin puts the airflow at the top to keep leaks away from the base and lists draws ranging from tight to restricted direct to lung.

The pre-installed coil is a 0.6 ohm DuoPrime, built for a tight draw between 9 and 13 W. Filling still uses a sliding lid, and three replacement glass sections exist, at 2, 3 and 4.5 ml. Only the 2 ml glass stays within the UK cap mentioned above.

Its listed draw, reaching restricted direct to lung, makes it the one Zlide suited to the 0.3 ohm Z coil, rated at 30 to 40 W. That coil completely changes the kind of bottle to pour in.

Which e-liquid suits your Zlide tank

Once the model and the coil are known, the choice of liquid follows from the wattage each coil runs at. Three cases cover the whole family.

Coils above one ohm, nic salt territory

The D22’s 1.6 ohm coil and the Zlide Tube’s 1.2 ohm coil both work between 10 and 14 W. Innokin presents the first as made for nic salt e-liquids, and the second shares the same range. A base close to 50/50 keeps the wick of these tight coils well fed, while a very glycerine-heavy liquid travels more slowly into the cotton. In the UK, nicotine e-liquid is capped at 20 mg/ml in bottles of 10 ml or less, and our nic salt shot chart helps place the strength.

The 0.48 and 0.6 ohm coils, a looser tight draw

The D22’s 0.48 ohm mesh coil, at 12 to 16 W, and the Zlide Top’s 0.6 ohm DuoPrime, at 9 to 13 W, vaporise more liquid than a 1.6 ohm coil. A 50/50 still suits them, with freebase nicotine or a nic salt at a lower strength than on the tight coil.

The Zlide Top’s 0.3 ohm coil, another family of bottles

At 30 to 40 W, the 0.3 ohm coil leaves tight-draw territory. A base richer in glycerine, around 30/70 or 40/60, copes better with that wattage, paired with freebase nicotine at a low strength. Our guide to the PG VG ratio explains why glycerine follows wattage, and our comparison of nic salt vs freebase nicotine covers the choice of form.

FAQ

These questions come up once the model is identified, when fitting a coil or filling the tank.

How long should you wait after fitting a new coil?

Published manuals and reviews range from 5 to 15 minutes after filling. The wait lets the cotton soak through, and a first puff taken too early on a dry wick gives a burnt taste that is hard to recover from.

Does the 0.3 ohm coil fit the Zlide Tube?

No. According to Innokin, the kit’s battery accepts 0.4 to 3.0 ohms, and a 0.3 ohm coil falls below that. This kit stays with tight-draw coils.

Do the Zlide D22 coils fit the Zlide Top?

Yes. Innokin lists both tanks as compatible with the whole Z range, so a 1.6 ohm coil taken from a D22 can go into a Zlide Top, set within its own wattage range.

Why can the flavour seem muted on the Zlide?

A UK review published in 2019 found flavour barely better than on the Zenith, and put it down to a flat vaporisation chamber with no dome. On this kind of tank, a recipe with bold flavours reads more clearly than a very delicate profile.

Can you fill the Zlide without removing the mouthpiece?

No. The D22 top cap stays locked while the mouthpiece is in place, a safety feature against accidental opening. Remove the mouthpiece, slide the cap, fill without going right up to the top, then close it again.

Zlide tank, identify the model before choosing an e-liquid

Diameter, airflow position and the coil supplied are enough to tell the D22, the D24, the Zlide Top and the Zlide Tube apart. The D22, the D24 and the Zlide Tube nearly always point to a base close to 50/50 and a tight draw, while a 0.3 ohm coil fitted to a Zlide Top opens the door to glycerine-rich bases.

For a Zlide tank, the reading order therefore stays the same. Identify the model, then the coil and its wattage range, and only then the ratio and form of nicotine in the bottle. The same method works for any tank whose coil you know.
